Full Mouth Reconstruction

If you are missing many or most of your teeth and/or your dental condition is a source of considerable pain and discomfort, you may need full mouth reconstruction. Full mouth reconstruction means rebuilding and/or restoring most or all of your dentition so that the function and health of the upper and lower jaws is regained. There are many reasons why you may be in a condition where full mouth reconstruction is necessary. The deterioration of oral health that requires full mouth reconstruction is not always due to reasons of neglect.

Full mouth reconstructions may be multi-phased and typically include procedures such as crowns and bridges, and may also include orthodontics, gum surgery, and dental implants. Undergoing full mouth reconstruction treatment is a process that requires a serious commitment and that may take up to a year or longer to complete but it is a process well worth going through for many reasons. The advantage to having a full mouth reconstruction done at DC Smiles is that most of the time it is not necessary for Dr. Singer to refer the patient to other offices for various phases of treatment. All the restorative and surgical procedures can be done at one of our two offices. Dr. Singer is well qualified to combine the aesthetics of cosmetic dentistry with the scientific principles of dentistry to achieve successful full mouth reconstructions. There are significant advantages to having all of the treatment done by one practitioner. It is thanks to Dr. Singer's combination of expertise, cutting edge techniques, state-of-the-art technology, and a commitment to each and every patient that our team is so successful with dental implants, full mouth reconstructions and cosmetic dentistry. The use of the finest materials available and a highly respected lab technician whose dedication to the continuous advancement of his work only helps to ensure our patients' experience is the best ever.

The Reconstruction Process

The process of full mouth reconstruction is well worth completing for reasons including restoring your oral health and function but also to return you the life style, confidence and youthful appearance you may have lost over the years from missing, lost and/or decaying teeth and periodontal disease. After your full mouth reconstruction, you may feel younger, more self assured and gratified that you have undergone care that is not only good for your oral health but also good for yourself overall.

When you come in for your first visit with us:

Dr. Singer will perform a thorough and comprehensive oral examination to determine the extent of the problems and condition of the teeth, gums, and joints. His evaluation will serve to design a treatment plan that can involve various options. At this time x-rays, photographs and models are taken of the teeth to aide in devising the options to repair the problems that will return to you your function and oral health.

To restore the teeth and return you to good oral health:

Dr. Singer will determine if the problem(s) can be corrected with one, more or a combination of various restorative and/or surgical procedures such as inlays, onlays, fillings, crowns, bridges, and/or root canals and dental implants. The gum tissue is addressed when there is periodontal disease present and Dr. Singer will perform root planning and scaling to treat the disease. If there is extensive receding of the gum tissue or there are deep pockets then gum and/or bone grafts may be necessary and included in your treatment plan to ensure you have a strong base for restorations and/or implants.

Your bite or "occlusion" is evaluated and considered in the design of your treatment plan.

Changes in your bite typically occur during the reconstruction treatment process so it may be necessary for Dr. Singer to use braces to stabilize your bite. A bite that is not corrected can cause teeth to break or become loose since they are out of alignment and there is abnormal pressure on them. Misalignment can also cause TMJ problems and pain and discomfort when chewing and talking.
