Dental Implant FAQs

Who is a candidate for dental implants?

Almost anyone with missing teeth who possesses good oral and overall health and adequate bone mass in the jaw is a candidate for dental implants. Controlled conditions such as type II diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, and cancer patients in remission can all qualify for dental implants.

How successful are dental implants?

Clinical studies show that implants have a success rate up to 98%. Dr. Singer utilizes all of the major implant manufacturers including Nobel Biocare, Biomet 3i, Zimmer, Astra Tech, and Straumann.

Dr. Singer prefers Astra Tech made by AstraZeneca pharmaceuticals. He has obtained a success rate in excess of 99% with this implant system. Good oral hygiene and regular preventive visits to DC Smiles helps ensure implant success. With proper care, your implants may last you a lifetime.

Will I feel pain?

Anesthesia and sedatives eliminate virtually all discomfort during the dental implant procedure. Prescribed medications can alleviate pain following the surgery. Most patients say the discomfort is less than that of having a tooth extracted.

How long does it take?

The entire dental implant process can take from one visit with Teeth-In-An-Hour to several months. It depends on how quickly your bone integrates with the titanium implant post, the quality (density) of your bone, and the type of procedure you choose.
